Couples Therapy
Couples counseling can help you and your partner rebuild connection, improve communication, and break out of painful relationship patterns. As a clinical psychologist, I use evidence-based approaches like Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT) and attachment-based therapy in couples counseling that focuses on understanding the emotional dynamics that drive conflict, increasing empathy, and creating lasting change. Whether you are navigating trust issues, recurring arguments, emotional distance, or life transitions, therapy provides a structured and supportive space to strengthen your relationship. By combining practical skills from IBCT with deeper insight from attachment theory, couples therapy helps partners feel more secure, understood, and connected in their relationship.
Couples Therapy FAQ
What should I expect in my first therapy session?
The first session involves sharing your joint relationship history and goals of starting therapy. This is followed by an individual session for each partner to provide a private space for personal perspectives and backgrounds before we reconvene as a group in the fourth session. A large part of the first session is to discover whether you both feel comfortable working with me as your therapist.
What is the duration of therapy?
The length of our work depends on your unique path. While some couples reach significant breakthroughs in a few months, others choose long-term support for major transitions that are significantly impacting the relationship. We consistently evaluate our progress to ensure our time together remains meaningful and both of you feel comfortable with the growth.
How long are sessions and what is the frequency?
Each session lasts for 50 minutes. I typically recommend weekly appointments at first to help partners build consistency, improve communication, and make steady progress in their relationship. Weekly therapy is often recommended at the start to address ongoing conflict, rebuild trust, and better understand relationship dynamics using evidence-based approaches. As your relationship strengthens and goals evolve, session frequency can be adjusted to fit your needs and schedule, ensuring therapy remains flexible, supportive, and effective.

Are sessions held in-person or virtually?
Couples therapy sessions are provided through a secure, HIPAA-compliant online video platform, offering convenient and confidential telehealth couples counseling from the comfort of your home. Virtual couples therapy makes it easier to fit relationship support into your schedule while maintaining privacy and consistency. While it is ideal for partners to join from the same location, virtual appointments allow for partners to join from separate locations if needed. At this time, couples counseling services are available to residents located in South Carolina.

Is support available for couples or families?
Yes - I currently offer couples therapy and marriage counseling for partners looking to improve communication, rebuild trust, and strengthen their relationship. Common areas of focus in couples counseling include conflict resolution, emotional and physical intimacy, trust issues, family and in-law dynamics, major life transitions such as job changes or parenthood, and building long-term relationship resilience. Please note that my practice does not provide family therapy services at this time.
What are your costs and do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider. While I do not accept insurance directly, I can provide a monthly superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement for therapy. I recommend contacting your provider to verify your out-of-network benefits. Current rates are $300 per session.
How is my privacy protected in therapy?
Confidentiality is a core part of couples therapy, creating a safe, private space where you can speak openly and honestly. I follow strict ethical guidelines and HIPAA-compliant standards to protect your privacy and ensure secure, confidential therapy sessions. There are specific legal limits to confidentiality in therapy, which will be clearly explained during your first appointment. Maintaining a secure and trusted environment is a central priority in our work together.
